Punch Action Configuration |
Data collection devices have function keys used for identifying common Time & Attendance transactions.
The T5 model has four function keys: These four functions are fixed and cannot be configured otherwise. |
|
The vPod model has twelve function keys: |
Seven (F1-F7) functions are fixed and cannot be configured otherwise. |
The Web Clock has nine function buttons. Buttons numbered 7, 8 and 9 in the diagram are configurable.
|
|
Configurable key functions are optional and may be defined via Punch Action Configuration.
Note Work Code Mode must be enabled in Device Management to make additional functions available. |
Although fixed Functions (F1-F5 on the T5, and F1-F7 on the vPod) cannot be changed, their Description can be changed to adapt to local language and practices using the Edit function.
Key functions vary by Device Type. Select the desired device from the drop-down. |
|
To add a new function, enter the name of the function in the Add Function text box and click .
|
The newly entered Function is added to a list of available functions not yet visible to the user. (The new Function is added to the Function drop-down list.) |
First, you must assign the new function to a specific Punch Type by clicking Edit next to the desired Punch Type.
In the case of F6 through F8, the Function, Description and Is Pay Adj. fields are enabled. If you want the Punch Type to affect the employee's payroll, set the Is Pay Adj. flag.
Select the desired Function you added previously from the drop-down list (Mileage in this example).
Enter the Description in the related text box.
Click Update. |
Assuming we added a "Mileage" function associated with F6 and a "Table Count" function as F7, ValLink will associate the new function with a physical function key and Work Order combination as follows:

Reminder: Work Code Mode must be enabled in Device Management to make additional functions available.
New key functions are added as described above for the T5, except that there are more options. There are twelve function keys. When used in conjunction with a Work Code, up to 24 functions are supported.
Key functions vary by Device Type. Select Web-Clock from the drop-down. |
|
New key functions are added as described above for the T5.
To edit the Description for Punch Actions, click Edit next to the description to be changed.
The Description field for your selection becomes enabled – enter the new Description and click Update. |
Compatibility between the T5, vPod, Web Clock, and the HandPunch can be maintained, where possible, via the Punch Action codes. If the Punch Action for each device is configured the same, Vision will process the punches similarly, regardless of which device was used to punch. Furthermore, if the user has a mix of T5 and vPod devices, T5 users can use the same physical keys to punch, avoiding potential employee training issues. A summary of the Punch Action Codes is provided below. Punch Actions that can be configured the same across all four devices are highlighted in yellow.

The Description associated with the Punch Action is displayed in Clock Records, the Web Clock and Vision.
If you edit the Description for Punch Action Code 9 to read "Break End web", Web Clock displays the punch as follows:
In Clock Records, the Punch Action is similarly displayed.
